As we close out 2020, I’m sharing some of my favorite Black-owned products that will make phenomenal gifts for everyone in your life from your significant other to your boss to your in-laws.
Bliss Box
Perfect for: your mom, best friend, significant other
One of my best friends sent this to me for my birthday and I was in love the second I saw the rose-pink box. The first thing that caught my eye was the t-shirt saying “She remembered who she was and therefore changed the game” on the front. After that, I was hype about the Rosé Made Me Do It candle by Posh Candle Co. (which I’ve been wanting for months) and the London Grant Co. body scrub. Although this gift could easily be a great fit for just about anyone, I feel my mom could do a quarantine self-care day at home with all the items.
Gift Cards to Black-Owned Coffee Shops
Perfect for: Your friend doing big things, your boss or coworkers
I specifically pointed out the type of homegirl this is for because one of my favorite homegirls who is doing phenomenal things got me this gift for my birthday. I’m telling y’all, I got the most amazing birthday gifts this year. Anyway, one of my favorite things is to find new black-owned coffee shops in LA and try them out with whoever will join me. My friend got me gift cards to my two favorite shops along with a few to places I’ve been wanting to try for a while. This is the perfect gift for anyone on their grind from your friends, to your boss/coworkers.
McBride Sisters Wine and/or Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey
Perfect for: Your in-laws, your boss
McBride Sisters Wine. You literally can’t go wrong with this wine which is why it’s perfect for your S.O.’s parents. Fun fact: the sparkling rosé was another birthday gift and it was perfectly sweet and bubbly without being overpowering.
Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey. I’ll admit, I haven’t tried this one yet, but I’m recommending it solely based on the brand story. Legend has it, plenty of the major whiskey brands that most of us have come to enjoy got their recipes and techniques from a slave enduringly nicknamed Uncle Nearest, born Nathan Green. Fast forward to 2020 and the Nearest bloodline has created their own whiskey based on the 18th century Tennessee recipe.
Bonus: both of these brands are sold at Trader Joe’s
Uncrowned Kings Bomber Jacket
Perfect for: Your significant other
So technically I got this jacket for myself, but it’s definitely unisex and if my husband could fit it, he would absolutely wear it out. Neither here nor there, I got this jacket because I felt I couldn’t pass up a jacket created by a black designer, sold in a black-owned boutique with a black-power fist and a giant black panther logo on the back. The fact that this is a quality jacket that will actually keep me warm also doesn’t hurt. This is a jacket that I plan to keep in my closet for a very long time, making it the perfect gift for someone you love.
Omi Woods Jewelry
Perfect for: Your significant other, your best friend
Rounding out the list is one of my favorite gifts ever. My husband got me an Omi Woods Trinidad and Tobago necklace for my birthday and I’m obsessed. This one hit close to home because it gave me part of a side of my family that I don’t get to connect with often. Not only is this necklace simple and gorgeous, but the quality is Grade A and will definitely be another piece that I’m holding onto for a while.
