I’ve loved Tracee Ellis Ross ever since Girlfriends. In my head she’s Auntie Tracee. Although her hair has always been goals, she’s been killing it lately. I was particularly inspired by her do’ at last year ‘s Golden Globes when she hit us with this…
So, when I recently found myself in a hair-rut I decided to try something new and who better to use for inspiration than Ms. Ross herself?
I used YouTube for tutorials, as I do with most of my hairstyles to accomplish this pony. This video gave a really great step-by-step of how I achieved my look.
Once I felt prepared, I headed to my favorite beauty supply store: Pico Beauty Supply and Salon. Since this was a trial-run I purchased Bobbi Boss Beach Curl hair that was $10.99. I didn’t want to spend a whole bunch of money on some hair that might not work out, but for the price this hair is really soft and I love the texture. It does tangle, but for $10.99 I’m satisfied.
I already had Cantu Curling Cream in my hair as well as Eco Styler Olive Oil gel so to avoid too much product build-up, I spritzed my hair with Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hold & Shine Moisture Mist and then smoothed down my edges with Cantu Edge Stay gel.
I then brushed my hair into a ponytail and made the smallest bun possible. Next, I wrapped the hair around my bun, securing the tracks down with bobby pins as I went. To seal the deal, I wrapped up my hair with a silk scarf and let it marinate for about an hour.
The results were fire and this will definitely be a go-to style for when I’m tired of my bun and feel like getting fancy.
